I’d love to work with you.

I’m Michelle Allen, a writer, creative strategist, and mentor with years of experience supporting writers, artists and creative entrepreneurs to take their work seriously, find their rhythm, and finish the projects that matter to them.

I’m the Co-founder of Ironclad Creative CIC, a not-for-profit supporting writers and theatre-makers, and I speak to creatives every week through my work here Infinite Upstart, on my podcast Resting Biz Face, and supporting people with their arts funding applications.

I’ve got an MA in Screenwriting from the National Film and Television School, and I’ve worked as a reader for BBC Writers Room and a producer across the creative sector.

Through Infinite Upstart, I also run Precocious Press, an indie publishing house for bold, character-driven storytelling. I’m currently qualifying as a personal trainer, bringing strength and body-based coaching into the wider work I do, because building creative work often means building trust and strength in your whole body.

If you’re working on a book, a collection, or a creative project that won’t leave you alone, Book Camp is for you. It’s not a course. It’s consistent, thoughtful support from someone who gets the push and pull of a creative mind, and the need for grounded structure to carry you through.

If you’re a writer who doesn’t want to do it all alone — I’d love to work with you.

FAQs

Is this a writing course?
Not exactly. Book Camp isn’t a traditional writing course, it’s a mentoring and support programme. That means I’m not teaching craft week by week. Instead, I’m helping you actually write your book. You’ll get regular 1:1 mentoring, feedback on your writing, accountability, and practical tools to help you build momentum. There’s a set of short video lessons and workbooks on plot, strategy, mindset, and the business of making art, but they’re there if you need them, not a requirement.

This is for writers who already know enough to get started, they just want to stop stalling and do the thing.

What do the group calls involve?
Once a month, you’re invited to a group Zoom call with other Book Camp writers. I’ll guide the call, and you’ll have the option to share a win, ask for support, or simply listen in. You can bring questions about your writing process, creative mindset, or next steps. I’ll respond with a mix of mentoring and strategy, tailored, honest, and focused on what you need.

You don’t have to speak if you don’t want to. Plenty of people find it helpful to listen and reflect.

What if I don’t finish my book in three months?
You don’t have to. The goal of Book Camp is consistent progress, not pressure. It’s aimed to help you increase your word count, build a writing habit that lasts, and leave with a clearer sense of what you’re writing and why. Whether you’re starting from scratch or mid-way through a draft, you’ll move forward in a sustainable way.

Can I join if I haven’t started yet?
Yes. You don’t need a draft to join. You might be working on an idea, picking up a long-abandoned manuscript, or polishing something nearly done. Book Camp supports you wherever you are in the process.

Is this for neurodivergent writers only?
Nope, but it’s a space that’s very ND-friendly. I’m AuDHD myself, and I’ve built Book Camp to be flexible, supportive, and low-pressure. Many of the writers I work with are neurodivergent, but not all. What matters most if that you’re a creative person who needs a little support along the way.

How much direct support do I get from you?
Plenty. You’ll get two 1:1 calls with me each month, plus a group call once a month, weekly WhatsApp group accountability, and written feedback on up to 20,000 words of your work. You’ll also get short video lessons and workbooks to use in your own time.

What if I don’t have time?
You don’t need loads of time, you need a rhythm that works for you. Book Camp is designed to support your writing life, not force you into someone else’s. The weekly check-ins, monthly calls, and feedback are there to help you keep going, not fall behind. Think of this as having someone in your corner for three months as you write. Your biggest fan and a champion of your work.

Do I have to share my writing?
Only if you want feedback. You can send up to 20,000 words across the three months, and I’ll return each piece with a page of notes and suggested next steps. But if you’re not ready to share, that’s fine too. Everything is optional.

Is there an early bird discount?
Yes. The full price is £750 for the three months, payable upfront or in three monthly instalments. If you sign up before the end of August 2025, you’ll get £100 off.
